biosphere reserves

  1. A protected area, or group of protected areas, set aside to support conservation of biological diversity and sustainable uses of terrestrial and coastal/marine ecosystems.
  2. Areas nominated by their owner(s) and internationally designated by UNESCO as biosphere reserves under the Man and the Biosphere Program.
