planetary circulation

  1. The instantaneous large-scale flow in the troposphere when viewed as a hemispheric or worldwide system.
  2. The mean or time-averaged hemispheric circulation of the atmosphere; in this sense, almost synonymous with general circulation.
  3. Same as general circulation.
