profile matching

A method of merging the shape or mathematical representation of a meteorological variable versus height in one layer with a different shape or representation in an adjacent layer.

An example in the atmospheric boundary layer would be the matching of an exponential wind profile at the top of a forest canopy with a logarithmic wind profile just above it in the surface layer.
