TIROS-N'' Operational Vertical Sounder

(Abbreviated TOVS.) An atmospheric sounding system composed of three instruments carried on the ‘‘TIROS’’-N and ‘‘NOAA’’-6 through -14 polar-orbiting satellites.

The HIRS, MSU, and SSU instruments compose the TOVS system.
